Land and Sea Tour

A seriously hip(po) Lisbon tour in a bus-cum-boat

  • The Belem district is the place you’ll head to for the river part of your trip. The doca do bom sucesso is another beautiful port where your vehicle will drive into the river! As the water rises up around you, almost to window level, you’ll start to move along the river Tagus in your unique amphibious machine. You’ll take in the lovely sights of the Belem tower and the towering monument Padrao dos Descobrimentos, celebrating Portugal’s age of discovery, all from their best view point, the water.
  • Wave at the people still on land, give a thumbs up to the sail boats that you pass by, gaze up at the blue skies and feel the fresh air as you sail along on your Lisbon guide with the water lapping around you.
  • As you glide along the water then drive up onto the banks of the nautical centre of Alges, with yet more bustling bars and restaurants, you’ll head back to your starting point. After this brilliant 2hr tour with a Lisbon guide of land and sea you can finish up with a nice cold Superbock or ice filled caipirinha and be well and truly ready with local knowledge and bearings for the next exciting part of your day and night.

Don’t worry, this bus floats!

This Lisbon tour combines a fantastic windowless amphibious vehicle (the first of its kind in Portugal) with an energetic guide who will steer your group around the most beautiful and interesting parts of Lisbon. Once aboard your yellow bus-boat, sitting high up with a clear view advantage you’ll be ready for your land and river tour to begin. You’ll be relieved to hear they don’t try to fly as well…

Amphibious Lisbon Tour Part 1: Land

Starting off at the doco de Santo Amaro, a gorgeous port with riverside bars, restaurants and views, you’ll set off towards the Praca do Comercio, a huge square flanked by an ornate building and massive statue of King Jose 1 in its centre. Next stop on your Hippotrip is the Marques de Ponmbal, another beautiful monument set in landscaped green gardens with a spectacular view down the slope to the river Tagus and surrounding areas. Following on is the unforgettable sight of the jardim de estrela, one of the most popular parks in Lisbon with exotic trees and flowers, ponds and fountains.

You’ll pass along the river side with your Lisbon guide giving you all the information you need, past the Electricity museum, an exciting cultural events centre, and then onto your final land stop at the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, a massive Monastery with a neighbourhood of lush green gardens. After taking in all these great sights and more on land, it’ll be time to take a dip!

We had a blast on the boat-bus! Our guide was hilarious and driving into the river is loads of fun. Thanks Claire for the recommendation.’ Catherine Steadman, Nottingham hen, August 2016.
