Ibiza – aka Eivissa – love it, what ever you call it

Most of us refer to the Island as “Ibiza” (and you might try a Spanish style “th” for the z instead of a “zzz”!). However, to the local “Ibicencos” who speak a variety of Balearic island Catalan, the name is Eivissa.

You’ll even see that writ pretty large at Ibiza airport, and hopefully this will not send you into a panic as to whether you got on the wrong flight! Anmd oh, by the way, if the name is Eiviss then the locals in questions are not Ibicencos after all, but “Eivissencs”. Confused? Of course we are. ! But, as with all Spanish language tangles, we simply say: whatever you call it, it’s got class!
