Valencia is a perfect, compact city for a hen weekend. Beautiful surroundings, warm all year, the marina, beach and clubs are tops. The fantastic climate puts a Valencia hen right at the top among the Spanish cities.
Valencia’s one million or so inhabitants will be the first to admit they are on to a pretty good thing. With wonderful beaches, oranges rolling freely around the streets (!), and great weather all year, Valencia offers a special mix of big city and beach resort. Add copious helpings of paella, munched on the outdoor terraces of restaurants and washed down with a perfect vino and things are getting pretty pleasant.
Valencia’s club scene is fantastic (especially at the spectacular L’Umbracle and Mya). And let’s not forget the atmospheric Valencia old town at El Carmen, full of bars and. restaurants and thronged with revellers (and lots of BLOKES!). Or Valencia’s sandy beach and clubbing at the Port and Malvarrosa Beach…or the breath-taking sight of the futuristic buildings the City of Arts and Sciences.
Your Valencia hen will not be the same without sampling the much-vaunted paella. This is the classic Valencia dish, and it was invented here! A must-eat and perfect for an inexpensive Valencia hen group meal (not to mention being a superb excuse for getting far too much wine down at lunch).
And those who like to do as the Romans do will want to try another local Valencian speciality “fartons” (yes they are really called that). These are pastries that you dip in chocolate and pop in your mouth, a sort of Mediterranean cousin of the Madrid favourite “chocolate con churros”. No wonder the Valencianos have a reputation for letting off bangers.
Our Tip: Valencia’s nooks and crannies are best discovered on foot. Walk about the city, with wine stops throughout, and you’ll be quite intoxicated…Start off at the Cathedral in the Old Town, and and head past the historic buildings to the old river bed and the breathtaking new architecture…
