For the last few years there has been an “explosion” of bars in Porto, and partying goes on all hours in the city centre in the areas around streets like Galerias de Paris and Rua Cândido dos Reis. You’ll find no shortage of bars, restaurants and night spots, and almost every doorway seems to hold an enticing bar!
These streets rock just about any nights but on weekends the crowds spill on to the streets and it’s a great big street party.
Plan B ( Rua Candidio dos Reis): this place is tardis-like (or was it the caipirinhas ?) on two floors and two dance floors, Full of Greek statues and decidedly un-statuesque dancers and DJ’s. A Porto classic!
Espaço 77 (Travessa de Cedofeita): Until its recent refurbishment this was rather grubby, but in a nice way. Now beautified, it’s still the real Portugal, traditional, zinc-barred, with outrageously cheap beer. One of the most adored bars in Porto, we love it! E77 encapsulates much of the unpretentious appeal of Porto itself. The Snacks are pretty greasy and go on all night long, as do the games of futbolin/babyfoot and arguments among students. Just do it!
Tendinha dos Clerigos (Rua Conde de Vizela): A rock bar that truly rocks with patrons who know how to get truly legless. This is the place to dnce to rock classics and let your hair down. Don’t be put off by the ecclesiastical name, that’s satire…
Cave 45 (Rua das Oliveiras): Another rock bar and concert venue, this time more eclectic with pink and and rockabilly guitar music thrown in. Well worth a visit.
If you’d like to organise a bar crawl and have it all laid on with one of our night-time guides in Porto let us know, it’s all laid on!
