Specially for your hen weekend (or stag), a 50 minute public Porto cruise where you’ll get the best possible view of Porto’s most iconic trademark sights: the fantastic bridges, beautiful tiled old buildings and the wine cellars.
The boat sets sail from the Vila Nova de Gaia side of the river (a short trip over the river by public transport from the Ribeira/Aliados districts, but let us know if you’ll need a minivan transfer to the quayside departure point at Cais de Gaia.)
Porto’s Douro river is steeped in wine-trading tradition (don’t try to drink it though…the river we mean) and spanned by old and new bridges that add a stamp of character to the whole place. You’ll see the old wine barges “rabelos“) plying either bank and it’s easy to imagine you’re in some 17th century reverie.
And, if you’ve worked up a thirst on the water there is good news. Watching all those wineries float by will surely have piqued your curiosity. We recommend you combine your cruise with a short visit to one of Porto’s premier wineries. This addition to your sail will only cost a few extra euros, but up the spirits considerably! There you’ll sample a couple of the wines that make this city so famous.
Just a short walk from where you disembark from the boat you’ll have entrance to one of Porto’s wine cellars, there you’ll sample some port wine and learn all about this lovely fortified nectar!
This is Porto’s greatest sightseeing adventure and you’ll have an audio introduction in English to all of the glories of Porto. All in all it’s a fantastic first day-in-Porto cruise trip. Add the wine cellar visit – this too is a must while in Porto – you’ll learn all about the wine and the wine trade and sample a couple of Ports from the cask – you can’t leave town without doing that!
